Why now is a good time to replace the “good old” steel strapping
With the ever increasing prices of steel, Cordstrap composite strapping is no longer just a safer and stronger alternative for steel strapping. It is now also more economical.
Cordstrap composite strapping is the perfect alternative for steel strapping. Cordstrap is stronger than steel strapping, yet it is completely safe for you and your customers. Although safety is often the main motivator, cost is now another incentive to switch to a better alternative.
Since we introduced Cordstrap in Australia, many companies have successfully switched from using steel strapping to the Cordstrap system and never looked back. Many companies no longer allow inbound products to be strapped with steel strapping due to safety. This is especially the case in the mining industry, where safety is one of the top priorities.

Benefits Cordstrap vs Steel Strapping
Although safety is a great motivator, Cordstrap offers many other benefits over steel strapping, such as:
- Stronger
- Easier to apply
- Fully shock absorbent
- Re-usable / Re-tensionable
- No rust, rot or damage to product
- Certified
19mm steel strapping no longer a low cost option
For high volume steel strap users, sometimes all these benefits still did not outweigh the slightly higher cost of the Cordstrap system. Mind you, this only applied when comparing 19mm steel strapping with 19mm Cordstrap strapping. The cost of steel strapping is based on its weight. When comparing 13mm, 15mm and 32mm steel strapping with the same sizes of the Cordstrap system, Cordstrap was already a far more economical option. In Australia though, most companies are using a 19mm steel strap.
Steel Strapping Pricing
Since the start of the pandemic the prices in the steel industry continue to sky rocket. International trade disputes, a spike in demand for metals, and the global shipping crisis are just a few factors contributing to these on-going price increases.
Where the price for hot rolled coil steel was just over $500 in 2017, mid 2021 this has increased to $1825 and still continues to rise.
These high steel prices make steel strapping a more expensive product than Cordstrap composite strapping.
