4 quick, easy and low cost solutions to safely secure cargo

When you transport goods, acceleration and braking combined with lateral vibration generates forces close to the actual weight of your load.

When a load is incorrectly secured, this can have disastrous consequences, such as, but not limited to:

1.) Cargo can break through the front wall of a truck, causing severe or fatal injury to the driver
2.) Load can fall from the vehicle, causing severe or fatal injury to other road users
3.) Load can fall from the vehicle, causing environmental problems
4.) Load shift can result in damage to cargo and cargo of others sharing the vehicle

How to avoid load shift:

Secure your load with the most suitable cargo securing solution for your application. Here are 4 quick, easy and low cost product solutions you can use to properly secure your cargo, eliminate load shift and prevent cargo damage.

General Cargo

Ratchet straps

Cargo Restraint Systems Ratchet Straps

Ratchet straps are perfect for tying down a wide variety of cargo. They are the most commonly used tool for securing cargo that is transported in trucks by road, because they are re-usable. Our ratchet straps are 50mm wide, 10 meters long and have a 2,500kg load rating.

It is important to keep in mind that when you use a ratchet strap as a tie-down, you can only calculate with 500kg load capacity per tie-down, no matter the load capacity of your ratchet strap, even if it is a 10t strap!

Steel and Plastic Drums

Drumclip

Finally, there is a smart way to transport palletised drums.

Tying down palletised drums is a nightmare for truckies. Most commonly cardboard corner boards, or a pallet on top of the drums is used in combination with a tie down. Due to the round shape of the drums, this never creates a stable method to safely transport the drums.

The Drumclip has finally brought a solution to this application as the video shows. Drumclips are re-usable, small and lightweight. This makes them a great solution that can be stored on the truck. Added bonus is that the clips can be placed on the drums on ground-level, making tying down the drums even easier for the truckie.

Blocking and bracing a load

Dunnage Bags

Dunnage bags are a quick and low-cost solution allowing you to block and brace your load inside the truck, and preventing your goods from getting damaged. Our bags are quickly installed and inflated thanks to our special fast inflation valve. The bags are also quick and easy to deflate, making them re-usable for next time.

Dunnage bags are available in a wide variety of sizes, and can be custom made.

Dunnage bags are a much better alternative than timber blocking and bracing, or styrofoam. These merely act as a void filler, whereas a dunnage bag exerts pressure, holding your cargo in perfect position as the video demonstrates. Dunnage bags are also cheaper and environmentally friendly!

Eliminating Load Shift

Anti Slip Rubber

Anti Slip Mats have great friction increasing properties, and are a must in preventing load shift. Just take a look at this video shot during an impact test.

Our anti slip rubber has a co-efficiency of friction of 0.8 They are available in pre-cut pieces, and 5 meter length rolls. There are 2 different thicknesses 4mm and 8mm.

Often conveyor belt rubber is used to increase friction, however this rubber only has a co-efficiency of friction of 0.3 which drops to 0.1 when it gets wet. Metal inside the rubber, makes it difficult to work with too.
